Overview
SS-31 (elamipretide) is a synthetic, mitochondria-targeting tetrapeptide (D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH2) that selectively associates with cardiolipin on the inner mitochondrial membrane. It is supplied as a lyophilised powder for laboratory research.
It is studied in vitro and in preclinical models for mitochondrial endpoints measured at the source of reactive-oxygen-species generation, including electron-transport-chain efficiency, membrane potential and ATP production. It is supplied as a research reference material only and is not for human or animal consumption.
Research areas
- Cardiolipin binding on the inner mitochondrial membrane, studied in vitro
- Reactive-oxygen-species generation measured at source in research models
- Electron-transport-chain efficiency and membrane-potential endpoints

Storage and handling
Supplied as a lyophilised powder in a sealed vial and kept frozen until dispatch. Unopened vials are typically stored at -20°C for the long term and 2-8°C for short periods. After reconstitution with bacteriostatic water, vials are generally refrigerated at 2-8°C, protected from light, and not subjected to repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
